Questions people ask
Before you start
Is revturtle free?
Yes. There's no sign-up, no ads and no dealer paying for placement. Answer 12 questions and your shortlist appears in about three minutes.
How does revturtle choose which used cars to recommend?
It sets aside cars that can't fit your life, finds the model years your budget reaches at today's asking prices, skips years with known problems, and weighs what each car is likely to cost you to own. Then it picks three that drive differently: a steady pick, a bargain and a wildcard.
Which used car model years should I avoid?
It depends on the model. Some years are known for transmission, engine or recall trouble. Every car on your shortlist shows the years to target and the years to skip, so you know what to look for before you shop.
What's the best used car for my budget?
The best used car is the one that fits how you drive, who rides with you and how long you'll keep it. revturtle checks your budget against what each model actually sells for now, so the years it suggests are ones you can find at your price.
Does revturtle sell cars or work with dealers?
No. revturtle doesn't sell cars, list inventory or take money from dealers. It points you to models and years worth test-driving; where you buy is up to you.
Do I still need a pre-purchase inspection?
Yes. A shortlist tells you which models and years are worth your time, but every used car has its own history. Always get a pre-purchase inspection and a vehicle history report before you buy.

Slow down. The right car is worth a little patience.
Hi, my name is Yousef. When someone I care about is buying a car, they call me first. Over the years I’ve learned that the worst car decisions come from rushing: a salesperson’s deadline, a price that seems too good to pass up, a model that looked great online.
I built revturtle to be the calm voice in that moment. It asks the questions I’d ask over coffee, checks the years and prices I’d check, and gives you a short list you can feel good about. No sign-up, no dealer behind the curtain. Just slow and steady advice that wins the car.
How a shortlist gets made
- 01
Start with your life, not the lot
Your 12 answers come first: who rides with you, what you haul, where you drive, how long you’ll keep it. Anything that can’t handle your life is set aside before anything else happens.
- 02
Find the years your budget reaches
revturtle looks at what each model actually sells for today, so the years it suggests are ones you can find at your price, not a rosy sticker from years ago.
- 03
Skip the years that bite
Some model years are known for transmission trouble, engine issues or costly recalls. Those are left out, so the years you see are the ones worth hunting for.
- 04
Count the real cost of owning it
A cheap car that loses value fast or drinks fuel isn’t a bargain. Each car is weighed on what it’s likely to cost you over the years you plan to keep it, including how much value it has left to lose.
- 05
Pick three that drive differently
A steady pick, a bargain and a wildcard. They’re chosen to be different from one another, so a weekend of test drives teaches you something real.
Where the data comes from
Prices
Typical asking prices from current used listings.
Fuel economy
EPA ratings, with running costs based on national averages for gas and electricity.
Safety
Crash-test ratings, recalls and owner complaints from NHTSA public records.
Reliability notes, problem years, trim advice and the short summaries on each car are written for revturtle from well-established ownership knowledge. They're a starting point, not a substitute for an inspection.

What revturtle is
revturtle is a free tool that suggests used cars worth test-driving. It gives general information, not professional, financial or mechanical advice. Your situation, the car's condition and its history matter more than any shortlist.
Prices and data
Prices are estimates based on typical asking prices from used listings and our own price modeling. They change often and can differ a lot by location, mileage, condition and trim. Safety, recall and fuel economy information comes from public government sources. We work to keep everything accurate, but we can't promise it's complete, current or error-free. Always confirm details with the seller, get a pre-purchase inspection and check a vehicle history report.
Your use of the site
You're welcome to use revturtle for your own car shopping and to share your shortlist. You may not:
