Worth knowing

  • 2010: owner complaints spike (110, mostly the steering).
  • 2011: owner complaints spike (40, mostly the steering).
  • The cabin is dated and loud on the highway. Many were modified, so favor stock cars with records.
  • Budget for higher running costs: summer performance tires cost about $700 to $1,200 a set and wear quickly, and brakes cost more than on a regular car.

The trim we'd park in our garage

Look for the Sport trim: it adds a limited-slip differential, 19-inch wheels and rev-matching on manuals over the base model.

On the test drive

Check for clutch slave cylinder leaks and worn synchros on manual cars. Get a pre-purchase inspection and a vehicle history report before you buy.

Safety tech

  • Automatic emergency braking: not offered in this generation.
  • Adaptive cruise control: not offered in this generation.
  • Blind-spot monitoring: not standard in this generation, so check the listing.
