Worth knowing

  • Depreciation is steep, which helps buyers, but trunk space is tiny. Budget for high service costs.
  • Budget for real running costs: performance tires often cost $1,200 to $2,000 a set and can wear out in 15,000 miles, and brakes cost more to replace.
  • It requires premium fuel.

The trim we'd park in our garage

Look for the V6 S: it adds about 40 extra horsepower, a limited-slip differential and adaptive dampers over the base V6; 2021 and later cars dropped the V6 entirely.

On the test drive

Pay for an inspection at a Jaguar specialist. Electrical repairs are expensive. Pay for an inspection at an independent shop that specializes in the brand.

Safety tech

  • Automatic emergency braking: standard from 2021, optional from 2018.
  • Adaptive cruise control: optional from 2021, never standard in this generation.
  • Blind-spot monitoring: standard from 2021.
