Worth knowing
- Depreciation has been steep, so used prices are appealing, but the styling divides opinion and there is no front trunk.
- Performance cars like this usually cost much more to insure than an average car, often 30% or more. Get a quote before you buy.
- Budget for real running costs: performance tires often cost $1,200 to $2,000 a set and can wear out in 15,000 miles, and brakes cost more to replace.
The trim we'd park in our garage
Look for the xDrive50: it offers excellent range and comfort for far less than the M60, which mainly adds more power; check for the Driving Assistance Professional package.
On the test drive
Ask for a battery health report, and compare the range shown at full charge with the original rating. Pay for an inspection at an independent shop that specializes in the brand.
